A tutor who believes in value-added improvements over results. I teach students who needs help (due to learning ability issues)

I was a primary school teacher with MOE from 2000 to 2015. In my years of teaching, I teach students in the middle ability and low ability results range. I teach English, Mathematics and Science and other non-core subjects. In my years teaching these students, I strongly believe in value-added improvements more than results as I believe more in gradual progress, as it brings up the child’s morale especially if the child has been requiring help due to learning needs (such as Dyslexia, ADHD, mild ASD). I started as a part-time tutor in 2018, teaching one student from 2018 (when he was in P4) till 2021 (he was in P6 Foundation) and teaching one other in 2021 (he was in P3) till 2022 (he was in P4). In 2023, I tutored P2 Maths, P3 Maths and P4 Science. In 2024, I tutor P3 Maths and Science. This year (2025), I am tutoring P4 Maths and Science.

My purpose of being a tutor is not to replace the teacher, but to complement what the school teacher has taught in school and to reiterate (re-teach) if needed. I'm okay to supervise the student's homework and I will supplement with assessment books and extra practices. I am someone who does not focus on results, but more of value-added improvements along the learning journey. Hence, I wish to be a different tutor as compared with the rest of the tutors in this industry. For Science, I would use Tony Buzan's Mindmap strategy to go thru the topic and concept with the child. My requirements for settings in a lesson will be to take place in the living room, preferably at a dining table. An adult is also present, need not accompany the child but can walk past to ensure that things are fine at all times.
