About Myself
My former students includes a Olympiad for Winter Youth Olympics 2024, who scored distinctions from borderline passes for English and Combined Humanities despite 4 months of tuition. I am a patient and empathetic tutor especially to those who are not academically-inclined, as I used to be from Normal Academic Stream. 🙂 I have worked with students with learning disabilities which includes ADHD, Dyslexia and Autism. I am currently working freelance as a Research Assistant to a local Historian with NHB grant funding. I have done paid editing work for research papers including my former lecturer's and his wife Sociology PhD theses. While not NIE-trained, what sets me apart from typical NIE teachers when comes to teaching humanities is the breadth and number of Arts and History courses I scaffold a well-rounded learning for students with materials outside the curriculum; good enough to perform miracles to turn a borderline pass to distinction.
My Lessons
English - Comprehension papers with reviews, breaking down the different type of questions tested, how to best phrase an answer, how to do a close read of texts and sharpen one's intuition to make sense of metaphors/author's subtext/subliminal messages. As for Compo, review different writing styles, give proper guidance on improving creative writing educating students on the subject matter for argumentative questions which they would lack the contextual knowledge to write a strong paper. Humanities - Review exam format, answering patterns and ways to sustainably prepare for exams without needing to cram. Review analysis of SBQ and widening student's contextual and historical knowledge beyond the syllabus and textbooks by showing case studies and showing how these have a causal effect to today; which many MOE teachers are not equipped to do so as their NIE training only taught them how to teach the syllabus without the academic rigor of a Humanities & Soc. Sci. undergrad programme.
